Got my freshmen GPA back…help…

My freshmen gpa is 3.2679 and personally I think its okay gpa for me but it seems pretty low compare to others in here…

I had such a confident that I will do really well in school, getting at least 3.5 gpa

but now I am worry if I will be able to go to good college and become a doctor one day..

Do I still have a chance of becoming a dentist with if I had maybe gpa of 3.3 and a decent SAT score at the end of Junior year?

People tell me Sophomore is easier than Freshmen year… hopefully its true…

P.s Im not expecting to goto any ivy leagues, just a 'good' college that is not a community college... and people in here makes me feel awful.. There are more people who has Straight A+s than As...

Dude. You're a freshman. A 3.2 is still a great GPA. I'm sure you can still become a dentist.

Just try harder. If you really want to be a dentist, then you can do this.

I'm sorry... No medical school is ever going to accept a 3.2 (your GPA if you are in college)...

I'm sorry, but you have to be SMART in order to become a doctor or go to medical school...

Sophomore year is NOT harder than Freshman year, looks like going to medical school is out of question for you

I've about the same GPA in 9th grade too, but it depeds on your skills. Did you get that low GPA because you were trying the best and couldn't get it? If that's the case, I say, it's not very good.
My problem was that I was so bored with dumb assignments and dumb class that I had that I just didn't have any enthusiasm to do them (although got 90+ on all tests).

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=204829&page=1&pp=15

Maybe I have a warped perspective? at my school, a 3.2 is good enough to get into many top schools....

I had a 3.3 my freshman year, and I just ended my junior year with a 3.83 and I'm now in the top 10% of my class.

Freshman year doesn't matter. Most colleges will just remove your freshman year, along with crap/cake classes, from your GPA and recalculate it. Nothing's better than an upward trend, by the way. If you can get a 3.5+ next year and maybe a 3.7+ your junior and senior years, you're in a good position.

it's okay, don't be stressed by CCers. they're just supremely elitist, haha. your freshman year of high school will not greatly impact your success in medical school, but you do have to work harder to get a higher gpa. the only gpa that med schools see is your college gpa (work hard for at least a 3.7+ for a good shot!) and even if you go to a non-ivy league school, you still have a good chance at many good med schools if you keep your gpa high, research, work/internships, etcetcetc. (actually, a lot of non-ivy league schools like wesleyan, which i just visited this past weekend, have very high med school acceptance rates. wesleyan has a 90%ish med acceptance rate :))

don't lose hope, but work harder! i'm sure you'll go places if you put in the effort.

you have nothing to worry about. I was pretty lazy my freshman year and ended up with a 3.1, but i worked hard during my sophomore year and raised it to a 3.7. If you work hard, itll just keep going up.

You do realize that you can't even apply to dental schools for another 7 years? Med/dental/professional/grad schools don't see your high school grades.

Don't worry... as long as you improve, colleges will see it as progress, even if you're not able to raise your final GPA to where you want it to be because of it. As long as it goes up, you're good. Even a 3.2 is not anywhere near bad, though, so just relax. =)

Thank you for your reply guys :) very helpful

i know.. the people in here are so like mean.. you can go to medical school if you work harder & a 3.2 GPA isn
t even bad or something . so, don't worry about it. just don
t compare yourself to the fellow CCers in here.. cause we all know we just feel horrible about ourselves when we do..

ok, i`m done

Looking back at my high school experience, freshman year was the easiest, think about it, teachers were slack in freshman year, but most of us got bad grades because we got lazy. to try and bring up your grades during junior year and senior year is almost impossible and most times your grades will drop those two years.

anyways my advice try and get even better grades next year because after sophmore year you have some many other things to worry about, that at times grades are the least of your worries.

A 3.2 GPA isn't bad. Plus, GPA is not the only thing that colleges look at. If you can bring it up some more during the rest of your high school years, it's perfectly fine. However, maybe you should think about why you didn't do as well as you expected and apply this to your next 3 years. High school is very different from middle school no matter what people say, so maybe it was partially due to this difference.

Oh, and my sophomore year was easier than my freshman year by a longshot. Don't be discouraged. It all depends on how much you put into it.

sophomore year is a little bit harder cuz theres more stress and weight from ur classes, depending on what u take. i liked freshman year and sophomore year was such a butt..... just hang tough. u should dramatically raise ur gpa if ur going into any medical field.

I hate that word: COMPARISON. Dont compare yourself to others at all. DO YOU THINK YOUR GPA IS LOW? Ask yourself this question. Dont look at these CC-ers and falter in the face of their excellence. You can do anything you want. Have courage and keep your mind transfixed on the accomplishment of your goal; only then will you reach success.

What's your rank by the way? GPA means nothing without rank.

Freshman year is seen by nearly everyone as a transition year, therefore a lower GPA can be justified as long as you maintain a strong GPA for the next 3 years in school. Don't stress too much about it and make sure to keep your GPA high in the coming years

Thank you guys... but than How do i can i raise my GPA?.. maybe im asking too too much :D but thank you for the repiles :D

I'm sorry, but getting into college is a COMPETITION... You're being judge along with students that apply to that college! There are plenty of students that get straight As who apply to top schools that didn't even get in, so why would colleges want someone like you who has gotten Cs?

You can "do anything you want" as long as you stand out from what everyone else is doing....
