<p>Heya everyone, just looking for some enlightenment here in regards to GPA.</p>
<p>My current GPA is a 3.1 overall and I'm afraid it is to low for the type of colleges I am applying to.</p>
<p>Now, the reason my GPA is this low is because, ina all seriousness, I didn't care abouit grades when I was a Freshman and my GPA at the end of Freshman Year was a low 2</p>
<p>From then on I "improved"...
Sohpmore GPA: 3.7
Junior GPA: 3.9</p>
<p>Now back to my question... will a college see me as an intellegent student and recgonize that I improved and had a "bad start" so to speak or am I screwed and all they see is "3.1"?</p>

<p>Princeton and Stanford don’t even look at your freshman year when calculating GPA.</p>
<p>Don’t worry. It may look scary but I’ve heard that the upward trend is sexy to colleges :D</p>
<p>Most colleges only focus on sophomore and junior years and take improvement very seriously. </p>
<p>You’re fine man, you can even apply to colleges like NYU where the average admitted GPA is 3.6</p>
<p>If a school recalculates by ignoring freshman year grades, then you’re set. An upward trend is also a very good thing and your 10th/11th GPA is very solid. Nonetheless, your overall GPA is low and schools that consider all years [Harvard, Yale, etc] will be where you’re disadvantaged.</p>
<p>Really? Wow…that’s the exact opposite of what one of my teachers told me. He would tell me how I really screwed myself over my Freshman Year and said how I was bound for community college for a year!!</p>
<p>We never really liked each other but he always was very professional about his job.</p>
<p>^ Don’t get confused though. You will need a LOT of other things going for you to get into Princeton or Stanford because even a 3.8 GPA by their standards is near that of a lot of unhooked applicants. </p>
<p>Also, I disagree with Precognition. I don’t think you have a shot at NYU or any top school that evaluates applicants including Freshman year because a 3.1 is very low and generally rejected unless you have a special hook.</p>
<p>Sorry to sound mean but it’s better to be realistic then foolishly get your hopes up.</p>
<p>You won’t be heading to the ivy league, but you definately won’t wind up in community college :)</p>
