safer... like my cousin goes to northwestern.. and she told me there were a lot of robberies and 'strange men' in allison and willard~

There were a few incidences of intruders this year because people were stupid about security and left doors open. It could have happened in any residence hall and security is much tighter now. But someone was also robbed right outside of Bobb hall about a week ago, before the security increase... so it's really about the same.

I know this post makes it sound like NU is unsafe, which is very untrue- we just had a few strange incidents this year mostly due to people's stupidity (except the robbery, which was just unfortunate). But it's uniform across campus

Are there any "suite" style dorms/res where I could have a private room but but of a larger set of rooms?

1835 Hinman, Slivka and CRC are all suites, I believe, but you will still have a roommate- sorry. Plex, known for singles, isn't open to freshmen anymore.

i don't know if this was in the thread before--what are provisions for freshman admission? like a 3.0? I'm getting a c+ (hoping for b+) in phys AP i think, and i'm worried, since i was also accepted off the waitlist...=[

A C+ shouldn't be grounds for admission revocation, especially in AP Physics. A D or maybe a C in an easy class would be a big problem. If you could get it up in the B range you'll be fine.

what's kemper hall like??

It's awesome, but also the most requested dorm on campus for upperclassmen (not open to freshmen). Big rooms, air conditioning I think, etc. Probably the only dorm it's common for juniors and seniors to live in.

ohhh.... lol :(

I need some dorm suggestions.

things I like:

-attractive girls
-indie music (wilco, radiohead, flaming lips, mogwai, sigur ros, etc)
-smoking/drinking in moderation, the occasional not-to-crazy party
-nice facilities (either old and well kept or sparkley and new, no cinderblock 1970's kinds of buildings)
-exploring the city, going to concerts

things I don't like:

-frat kids
-depressing dorms
-depressing people

I'm a journalism major if that means anything

xian, apply to Willard. For the most part I think it applies to your likes but, then again, I'm an incoming frosh too and don't have any personal testimonials other than what others have told me. But my likes are similar to yours, and I'm applying to willard as my first choice, so yeah.

Sorry, but there's no such thing as a "frat kid" at northwestern... and it's probably a mistake to come in with a closed mind like that considering how prevalent Greek Life is on campus.

alrighty here's my list:

Slivka

Ayers

Sargent

Allison

Bobb

I am trying to live somewhere on the northside of campus as you can see. Allison (south) is 4th, so I probably won't get it.

xian, your likes are similar to mine too and i'm applying to willard...except i'm a girl, so attractive guys

im stuck btwn allison and willard for first choice...does anyone have any insight?

im a theater mjr, hopefully with a double in poli sci. i drink, have no problem with smoking, and partying in moderation...however i wouldnt want it to be crazy every night of the week...i like quirky, really social pple. but i also dont want to be surrounded by a million pple exactly like me...ideas?

blueberry2: if you're a theater person who doesn't want to be always surrounded by theater/music/artsy kids, i would also look at north campus residences. i thought i wanted to live south, and got into bobb-mc which was my 4th choice, but i LOVE it. it's nice to have the 2 separate worlds of north and south. but as far as south campus, allison and willard are both good for what it sounds like you want

Blueberry2, if you just want a laidback social dorm where it's on you to be social and make friends, live in Allison (Bobb is also good for you up north). If you want more of a community, with lots of dorm events, meet-your-neighbor games, etc. that help you meet people, pick Willard. Both are good choices. I live in Willard and I love it.

I second what dfleish said. Plus Willard has got some crazy fun events like Polka Party and Woo Au Luau, which you won't find at Allison. :)

dfleish, i always see you recommending Bobb/McCulloch to people. I heard Bobb is just too loud on weeknights and it's dirty. Any truth to this? Drinking's fine and good but I need to study and sleep somewhere haha

I'm not going to lie...Bobb can be loud. I live on the first floor right in front of the entrance to the McCulloch side and I hear the drunks come in at night, but it's never been too much for me. Also, anytime people have been too loud in our hallway, and we've asked them to be quiet, they've been glad to quiet down or move elsewhere. Yes, McBobb is somewhat of a party dorm...no, it is not always the cleanest....but, I truly think that living in Bobb-Mc your freshman year is a GREAT experience and it's never been too much for anyone I know to handle as far as being loud/dirty. I've only been woken up a couple times when my window's been wide open, and I just rolled over and fell back asleep!
