Bobb isn't really noticeably dirtier than other dorms, although the rooms are smaller. Being in Bobb when I have been, it hasn't been noticeably louder than in any other dorm where people party- and although I had heard bad things about it before coming here, everyone I know who lives there (that is a social person who likes to party) swears by it, and it filled up very quickly with sophomores for next year. For big, real "freshman experience" dorms up north, Bobb and Elder are definitely the best bets.

bobb's rooms, though smaller than some dorms, are not even near tiny...there is tons of overhead storage space and the closests and dressers are pretty spacious. my brother goes to notre dame and my room is a palace compared to his freshman year room!!

I'm not going to be happy unless I get Allison or Willard. :/

Psh, yes you will. You don't even know what the dorms are like.

Seriously....Allison and Willard are fun, but damn...don't be so pessimistic...there are so many amazing dorms and its more about the people, not the building

the way i look at it, if you want to have a certain atmosphere in your dorm room, you'll be satisfied with almost every dorm. Maybe I'd understand if you really wanted a res college and didnt get it, but applying for housing is just like applying to college, but without stress. No matter what you'll enjoy the school you go to or where you live, and over time you wont even remember or care about where you didnt get to go or live. Of course if you go into it refusing to enjoy your situation, you wont, but dorms are such an insignificant part of college life.

Question about classes: when do we sign up? are we sent stuff like coursebooks, etc and then choose preliminary stuff and then select classes at orientatino? or do we have a date to do it online?

You don't have to worry about any of that until you get to campus (nor should you). To my knowledge, the only classes that you have to pick ahead of time are CAS freshman seminars . I dont know much about the other colleges.

You will get a registration time, and you register online. You will have a couple of days to browse CAESAR and decide what classes you think you want to take.

actually dorms are a pretty big part of college life...you end up spending quite a bit of time (but definitely not all) with people you meet on your floor or in your dorm. because you're with them a lot, you form some pretty good friendships with them - or they may bug the heck out of you. nonetheless, each dorm has its pros and cons.

well, i understand that where you live is a big part of your life during school, but i firmly believe that if someone wants to enjoy their living situation, even if they get a dorm not in their top 5, they will, and if they go into it with the belief that everything is gonna suck, because they did not want that dorm, they'll find more ways to dislike their situation and copmlain about it.

thanks for class stuff, also when's move in?

i agree scoop22!

move in is september 12 for freshmen...

Do people actually stay in the dorms over Thanksgiving?

thanks kmac

so move in's the 12, orientation also starts on the 12 right? my dad's trying to help me plan moving in and stuff. He's planning to leave night of 12th, too early/late?

you won't actually have any activities outside the dorm until the 13th....you'll have a dorm meeting the night of the 12th with basic rules and stuff and you'll probably also watch the orientation movie....the night of the 12th is fine for your dad to leave, you'll need him for help with move-in, but you won't want him around much longer - you'll be trying to get to know some new people!

okay so my list is elder, sargent, hinman/lincoln, 1835 hinman, and bobb.. and i REALLY want elder... do you think they'll give it to me.. because i just now realized that hinman/lincoln is pretty unpopular.. and it is third on my list (i now regret it T.T) ... do you think i could still get elder?

you never know...i know people who have gotten their 1st choice, but i got my fourth choice and it was the best experience of my life living in bobb-mc. hinman/lincoln is not a bad place to live, and even if you end up there and don't like it, you're right by elder and just across the street from all the frats and bobb-mc. all your choices are pretty big dorms and you can enjoy yourself in any of them....i know people who do!!

how strict are the visitor/guest policies?

in particular:

A resident may have overnight guests, limited to one guest per resident at any one time, provided proper written approval of all
roommates/suitemates is filed and guests are properly registered with the University Residential Life Office. Guest privileges are limited to a
maximum of 3 consecutive nights and a total of 7 nights per resident per quarter. Overnight guests must be of the same sex as that of the residents
assigned to the room/suite.
