Got Rejected as a Transfer Because of GPA

Hi! I’m currently at a city college in California looking to transfer to a UC. I’m currently finishing all the required lower division major classes I need to take, but already took all the minimum amount of classes required to transfer. Though, I got rejected to transfer this Fall because of my GPA (I had a 2.9 when they wanted a 3.1).

My problem is that I only have 1 more lower division major class I need to take after this semester. The class is very difficult (Differential Equations + Linear Algebra) and my city college only does straight letter grades, which would mean that unless I get an A, I won’t be able to meet the GPA requirement.

Other than acing my final class, do I have any other options or ways of getting accepted? Or should I just accept my rejection? If it makes a difference, I have not completed all my General Ed courses yet, which I was planning on finishing them once I transfer.

you should work with a counselor at the xfer center on this. They should know (or can find out) whether the 3.1 is your overall GPA or just the GPA in your major classes. Actually you can probably find that out yourself. If overall gpa, then another year at your CC while taking classes you can get A’s in will raise your gpa. If gpa in your major, then you may need to aim at other UC campuses or a CSU, unless you have the option to take more classes related to your major and they count them in the gpa. And maybe the counselor will know of some other options.

What is your major, and what UCs did you apply to?
