Got rejected to umass colleges

When I got the news in the mail , my mind stopped working . How could it happen ?

I have GPA of 3.76 but i got rejected to umass colleges (all of them-Lowell,boston and amherst) !
My many friends who have GPA from 2.3-3.0 got accepted with ease !
What is possible reason behind this ? This means that I am already rejected by private colleges I applied to as state colleges didnot accept me..
I had community service, different clubs ,extracurricular activities and an nice essay written..
Well ,my only thought is that is it because of sat score ?
My sat score is horrible (1300)
but my friends who have 1000,1200 still got accepted to umass ?
So is community college my last option ?
Any recommendations on what should I do ? Should I apply to colleges with very late deadlines(even though it sounds stupid)

Just because UMass rejected you does not automatically mean the other schools you applied to will reject you. I don’t know why you were rejected, but college admissions is very random and sometimes doesn’t seem to make sense.

I hope you get into the other schools you applied!

1300 puts you at a very low chance for those schools…what made you think they were safeties?

Did you apply to a more popular major than your friends with lower stats who got accepted?

Or are you missing a course in the required high school course list?

It sometimes depends on what college within the university you applied to versus your friends. Engineering and nursing are more selective than many others. At UMass Lowell Engineering for example you would need at least a 1000 for CR+Math, and it is no doubt higher at UMass Amherst.
Did you only apply to UMass Amherst, Lowell and Boston? There are many other public schools in Mass. - UMass Dartmouth, plus all the State schools (Salem, Fitchburg, Worcester, Bridgewater, Framingham, Westfield). Why didn’t you apply to any of those given your low test scores?
In fact some of these are still open for applications! So get moving!!!

My plan was to go to umass lowell or boston,as its near! I never expected i would be rejected… and my major is computer science

Your SAT score is way, way below the 25th percentile for Umass-Amherst, for example, so I think many of us are surprised why you’re surprised.

Are you saying that you have not applied to any other colleges?

Apply NOW to some of the other state schools. Salem State, for example, has Computer Science
and has rolling admissions, but the suggested application deadline is March 1st!
[Salem State University: Computer Science](http://www.salemstate.edu/academics/schools/296.php)

Apply to any and all that have the CS major and have rolling admissions.

Then, if you maintain a good GPA you can transfer to UML or UMass Boston or UMass Amherst if you want. Do not waste another minute waiting for people on CC to give you ideas. There is nothing wrong with these other schools.
I wonder why your guidance counselor didn’t tell you to apply to other schools?!

It sounds like your friends’ SATs of 1000 and 1200 were only the Math + CR scores…so they may have gotten 500-600 in those sections. Your 1300 is for all three sections…which would be below 500 for each section.
