Gould Library is now Toff Library?

I came across a article on Carleton's website stating that Gould library is now called Toff Library after the campus cat that died a few years ago. I thought it was adorable and loved the idea of Carleton naming something after a cat, but their website still has Gould Library everywhere. Was the article a joke, or has the transition just not happened yet?

Check the publication date on that article - I suspect it is April 1 or thereabouts.

Nope, the libe name change was definitely a spoof. But, if you are a cat fan you’ll be glad to hear of the new furry fellow prowling campus, making his way into dorms and class buildings and generally endearing himself to current Carls. Lyman is his name.

hahaha okay thats what I thought :D

awwww hopefully I’ll meet Lyman soon!

Carls have a thing with their campus cats. I had an experience with Toff…

It reminded me of a scene from Portlandia. Specifically, Season1, Ep 2 at about 11:50. You can see it on Netflix. On Portlandia the animal is a dog instead of a cat, but the the theme is the same. The two on Portlandia see this dog minding its own business near a restaurant and start screaming at all the patrons sitting in the restaurant because they think the dog is in trouble. They end up ordering gourmet food for the confused dog who eventually runs away.

One night a similar thing happened to Toff. I was walking into Nourse Hall, and there was the frantic woman screaming at everybody walking into Nourse. Honestly, this poor student was a total wreck. Toff was hiding in the bushes near the entrance of Nourse just yelling away. Cats hide and the yell. That’s what they do. They don’t do it because they are hurt or in trouble. As far as I can tell, cats do this because they are bored. This poor Carl outside of Nourse didn’t realize this. She though Toff was hurt, and she was screaming at everybody that entered Nourse. She personally told me (in a loud and frantic voice) that I didn’t give a s!@t about poor Toff. When there was nobody walking into Nourse, she would try to grap Toff who would just run away and keep yelling. It was a bizarre night.

Looks like things ended ok for Toff. The cat had a long life and had the library named after it.

As much as Toff sorely missed,

April fools at work on campus.

But generations of Carls to come will still be able to enjoy Toff as generations have enjoyed Oscar.
