Government: Hard to get into?

I know a lot of people on this board are applying to Cornell for science and engineering, but what about you liberal arts kids? I haven't heard much about the competition for CAS and the Government major. Anyone know anything about it?

I'm hoping there's a chance that I'll get in. Cornell accepts a lot of kids from my school (20 in class of 2003, 14 in class of 2004) for some reason. I know most of the other kids are applying to CALS or a science within CAS; do you think that would help my chances.

Also, I really want all my Cornell stuff to be in good and early so I don't have to worry about it. My teachers have been holding on to my recommendations since the beginning of october. How do you tell them to speed it up without being bitchy?

Clarification: I meant that most kids from MY school are applying to CALS, and was wondering if that could help my chances.

Just kindly remind them of when you need them, I'm sure they wouldn't mind if they're writing other recommendations it might have just slipped their mind
