So I'm a sophomore (rising junior) who has an internship at the Lieutenant Governor's office for about 10 hours a week this summer. If I'm looking to go into polysci, would this substantially help me in college admissions. I'm the only high school intern; everyone else is currently enrolled in law school.

It will look positive on an admissions application. I wouldn’t say it’s going to “substantially” help, as you will in all likelihood be doing menial office tasks - and admissions committees know this, but it is a plus. Internships in the field you are planning to major in show a clear sense of direction and purpose and universities want students with these attributes.

I would encourage you to make the most of the internship. Offer to do extra work or help out on any substantive projects (even if it’s one of the law intern’s projects). You could benefit from a good recommendation from their office.

Best of luck!
