I'm thinking about applying for the PA Governor's School for International Studies for next summer. Is there anyone here who has been to any Governor's School- in any state- who can give me some feedback on what it's like, would you recommend it, etc.? Or, if you've talked to anyone who's done it, can you let me know what they thought of it?

I'm from MO, my governor's school might be different from yours, but I feel that I must tell you of my amazing experience.
In Missouri, we have two governor's schools, one for the arts, and one for academics. I went to MSA (Missouri Scholars Academy) for 3 weeks at our state's flagship U (Mizzou) and it was the best experience of my life. I go to a high school of about 2200, but the 300 kids I met @ MSA are the best people my state has to offer, we were all intelligent (so there was a really cool sense of equality) and the kids I hung out with were so funny and quirky :) that it still makes me smile to think of them.
We had 2 classes every day, a major which lasted 3 hours, and a minor which lasted for 1 hour. My major was okay, but my minor was the best class I have ever taken, and I wish I could take it everyday.
It was so nice to have so much freedom @ Mizzou, we all felt like college kids and it was a great break from normal life.

Obviously, yours is different from mine, but I would still highly recommend that you attend.

I live in NC, and though I haven't done the Governor's School (not old enough), I've heard it's prestigious and rewarding. My French teacher did it back in her day, not so long ago, and loved it. It's especially cool that it's free, so it doesn't come off as some hanky-panky resume padder. Honestly, it's a good opportunity and everyone I've heard who's attended as enjoyed their time.

I love the old threads. They come from the ancient realms that were once CC. I really like to bump threads that lost any significance several years ago. For instance, I bumped one that talked about Bush's recent decision to hire Condi Rice as Secretary of State.
