GPA 3.3, SAT 2200, will I get into Smith College?

I have a pretty low GPA with a pretty good SAT score. I have many leadership positions with good extracurricular activities. Will I get into Smith?

Bummmpppp.

Are you full-pay? What’s your class rank?

Your GPA is rather on the low side, but depending on your class rank it might be ok. Also, Smith doesn’t consider test scores as important (according to their Common Data Set). A high score is never a bad thing, but much more important than it are essays, ECs, and recs. Smith also looks at personal qualities, so you’ve got to make sure your essay reveals as much about you as it can. And Smith uses holistic admissions, so they’ll look at your whole app. Really, if every other part of your app is fantastic, you’ll have a good shot.

Also, if you’re an international and you need aid, you’re put into a much more competitive pool, since their financial aid budget for internationals is very limited. If you need aid, Smith and pretty much every school that offers aid to internationals is a reach for you. It’s possible, though.

Anyway, good luck! I’m also international, and I got into Smith EDII. I hope we’ll be classmates next year!

Colleges that don’t care about test scores tend not to value GPAs very highly either, so you should be okay if your extracurriculars and essays are good.

On the contrary, colleges that are test-optional often highly weight GPA, on the grounds that how you do day in and day out at school is more important than how you did on one specific Saturday on a test.

Smith’s Common Data Set says that GPA is “very important,” whereas test scores are merely “considered.”

haha yes you will get in. we have a 45% acceptance rate or something like that. most people here didn’t do that well in high school. the better question is do you want to come to smith…not will you get in. and you should think REALLY long and hard about whether smith is the place for you.

BlueTrueDreams: International acceptance rate is less than half of that. It’s something like 20% and it’s probably a bit lower for applicants who ask for aid. For an international with financial need, it’s a reach.

Hello! I had a 3.3 uw gpa (3.9 weighted) and a 2260 on the SAT and I got in! And I’m Asian and high middle class with no hooks. I think I got in because I took a lot of honors and AP’s and had a great interview. Good luck!

Hi; I scored two 750’s and a 660 on the SAT, and my GPA (not weighted) is 3.94. Apparently I was a shoe-in, if that’s any help.

Don’t blow off the interview and you will be fine!

I think so!
