GPA and wharton

I’m a junior, and Wharton is my first choice for school. I don’t really have a good GPA- I’ve taken moderately hard classes in freshman and sophomore years, yet I’ve I have a weighted GPA of 89 for freshman, and around 94 for sophomore. I took one honors in freshman and two in sophomore. But this year I’m taking 4 AP’s and an honors and I have a GPA of a 96 (weighted). Im on pace to take 4 more AP’s next year.
I have excellent business crudentials, state rankings and championships in Quiz Bowl, Business plan, and e-commerce as a sophomore, hopefully international ranking as a junior. I also have good SAT’s- 2220 on December’s (I did much better on some practice ones, so Im going to push that score up).
Considering the limited information provided, and the fact that penn has taken only four kids total in the last four years from my school, do my rankings and awards make up for my poor GPA? Enough to give me a good chance at Wharton ED?
btw- my uncle went to Wharton, and ill have a stellar rec from a teacher WHOSE DAUGHTER graduated with ridiculous honors and continuously gives lectures at Wharton.
I would appreciate any help, and dont worry about being mean, i might need a reality check, thanks, and to all seniors, good luck.

Personally, I think you have a very good chance as of now. You seem to have a challenging course load and good SATs. Just make should to have some variety to your application too. They like focus, but they don't want someone who doesn't do anything but one thing. But I think you're chances for next year are pretty good.

thank you. will having all my awards from the business and law area (if forgot to list the county consumer bowl championship- its law based quiz bowl) be detrimental to my app? i do other things- pres of investments cluib, NHS, intern at bank as an account rep.. Too much business?
in my essays i will def show my genuine passion for all things business.
Oh and an other thing. I had a ridiculous accounting teacher freshman year, and even ended up getting an 85- does that hurt for Wharton, or do these elective grades really not matter? thanks

Having a strong focus in business is definitely good for Wharton. I suspect that having a few non-business things would be good too, but I don't think it would deleterious if you didn't have more. I'm not sure about the 85 but I'm tempted to say no, it wouldn't matter.

anybody have other thoughts?

I think the GPA won't sway your chances too much since you have an upward trend. What do you plan to concentrate in?

since we're on this topic.....im also a junior nd wharton is my first choice....I have about a 91 average (unweighted).....im taking the SATS in April but by my previous PSAT scores nd practice tests im hoping i can get about a 2200 (ill admit even thats a stretch)....i have alot of leadership positions tho such as VP of student council for sophomore and junior year, pres of FBLA, pres of community service club, nd a few more stuff.

ive won some business, public speaking, and technology state awards through FBLA, and theres a small chance I can be a state officer for FBLA next year. Theres also a chance i can get to gov school this summer (im a semifinalist)

My school is weird and all my classes are honors, since 9th grade....so i guess thats a plus. neway just wanted to know if u guys thought i had a chance to get into wharton with my weak gpa if i get lucky with gov school nd winning FBLA state vice president.....cuz if twisted logic is worried i may have problems lol

again my stuff seems pretty bad compared to alot of yours but dont be afraid to tell the truth lol i appreciate that

Thanks

Although the GPA is important, I wouldn't sweat it too much. My 9-12 transcript currently has 11 Bs, but I still got in. So, for future applicants, try not to worry about the quantitative more than the qualitative. Your essays and presence has just as much, or maybe even more weight than the numbers.

Thanks Lucy98...i would hope so because im new to this site but if colleges base most of their acceptances on quantitative stuff and the members of this site represent the majority of high school students....im screwed lol. u guys are geniuses.

also...wen u talk about presence and watnot...does wharton do interviews? because i tihnk an interview will help me alot but someone told me that big colleges have too many applicants to interview them.

yeah, thanks for the help lucky. i dont know what i will concentrate in, i have been most successful in finance and marketing, and am becoming pretty good with the law competitions, so im leaving my options open.
another quick question... how hard is it to submatriculate into the MBA program (assuming, of course, that one gets in)? I read the whole wharton handbook for submat. on the web site, but what kind of GPA do you need? it seems pretty competitive, they want you to take the GMAT by the feb of you junior year, and i would assume one would have to have a few course reqs fulfilled thanks to AP's.
thanks, once again, for all the help people have provided.

what kind of business crudentials do you have?

well im the president of my future business leaders of america club and hopefully will be state vice president of the club as well as i said before

....also, i cofounded a computer consultant business with 2 other guys my age if that counts for nething....i know its kinda dorky lol but i definetly learned alot about business

what kind of chances would a world ranking in the international businessplan give me? w/ the "low" GPA and mediocre class load in frosh, soph years.

I am in the same boat as well. Low-ish GPA, solid business experience+leadership (pretty uncommon one at that).

wow, seems like there are many of us that are gonna be on the fence come ED time. what we do over the next 9 months is so critical...

Yea I guess. But I am okay with my converted 3.7 UW GPA. Way I see it, its gonna come down to the business I run, internships, and awards at contests. Its all up to the adcoms hands now basically. Nothing more that really can be done. My goal basically is not to screw up the GPA more.

yeah. im an indian male from central jersey public schools, and considering there are a million statistical clones of me walking around, the only way i get into wharton is with a world ranking through DECA- i came close last year, so im hoping i do it this year.
i remember you saying you worked at a hedge fund, thats pretty damn impressive. I work at a bank and will hopefully be at UBS over the summer in the wealth management division.

Well say hello to indian male number two.

Yea I intern at a fund plus I run my own FX liquidity+MM business (approx. 50MM, 500 standard lots, in liquidity/month done through the business). Good luck with the UBS gig. It would be good if you can snag that.

thank you, and same to you. lets hope we see each other at wharton in sep of '07.

Hey, what state are you guys in? Hopefully none in PA..
