I volunteered 135 hours for a local Congressman and was then hired by him as a field representative.

My officer positions include: Olympus club class representative 10th grade, Olympus club treasurer 11th grade, FBLA vice president 11th grade, DECA vice president 11th grade.

The activities i was involved with include: AcDec, quiz bowl, FBLA, DECA, NHS, History Day, Model UN, Olympus, Stock Market Game, National Finance Challenge (3rd in state for 2 years), and National Economics Challenge (3rd in state for 2 years, 1st in state 1 year which put me at 35th in the nation).

Misc: I've visited Penn 3 times and sat in on an econ course at wharton, am from a state that sends under 10 kids a year to Penn, and took math courses over the summer so I could take AP AB calc before graduation specifically because wharton wants kids to have calc.

Can you please tell me what you think my odds at getting in are on a scale of 1-10 and offer any advice you might have for areas of improvement?

u need an internship at HSBC or somefin along those lines
or some summer program that shows ur interest in business, but i guess ur national finance challegne is quite impressive already
im sure ur SAT I will be improved…get 2200+

No, you do not need to join some program just to show that you are interested in business. The two things Wharton specifically looks for are rigorous academic history and leadership roles. I think you can definitely market your ECs as leadership-building activities, and should suffice without the aid of business experience.

Your ranks and standarized test scores are not comforting, I hope you realize that. Your “misc” experience should work very well to your advantage for that “Why-Penn” essay. I cannot really get a feel of your character, personality, values, etc. from the information provided and as such I do not feel well-equiped enough to make any call on your chances. With that said, you are extremely unlikely to make it through the initial rounds of elimination with your current standarized test scores.

It’s mainly the test score you need to work on, especially math. Wharton is quite interested in math and most students that apply have 800 on math section of SAT I and 800 on Math II (SAT II).

However, I would say your EC’s are great and you don’t need business experience to get into Wharton.

As above, the test score will hurt but I don’t think it’ll knock you out of consideration right away. If you can write passionate enough essays you’ll probably still be considered albeit with lower chances. Definitely boost those scores though. Have you tried SAT Math II? Some find it easier than Math I since the curve is less harsh. ECs are decent, I wouldn’t say great but still wharton range.
