GPA colleges see

I currently have a 86.6 gpa in high school as a senior. Does this round up and turn into 87 which is an average of 3.3 on the gpa scale. or does is remain a 86 which is a 3.0 . Or does this stay as 86.6 and is a decimal gpa such as 3.1 or 3.2 in between 3.0- 3.3? the differences the rounding of my 86.6 gpa is important even if its a .1 difference because rounding it up adds a few points to my gpa and increases my chances for college when i look online myself. So which is the gpa colleges see?

None of the above. Depending on the college, most read the transcript for what they want, individual grades in certain classes. GPA alone is too crude a tool unless you happen to have a school that just puts the numbers in a formula, but even then, they may not count everything like gym or health or art or band.

In short, don’t worry about it. There’s nothing you can do about it and they’re going to do what they’re going to do.

@MrMom62‌ thanks this relieved some stress about it:) but quick question… if im using websites that graph my SAT score and gpa to see my chances of getting in to a certain uni. for example ■■■■■■■■■■, what number from the 4.0 scale should i use for a gpa number for a rough guess of my chances for that uni.?

@Saashah‌ I think it would be best to go with the lower of the two numbers and use the 3.0, possibly a 3.1 or 3.2, to play it safe. Every university is different and some might recalculate your GPA entirely with their own weighting scale, only using the core “academic” classes, giving no weight, etc. It’s truly not worth worrying too much over, I would just stay on the safe side and guess lower rather than higher when it comes to matches and safeties!
