I’d like to receive feedback from experience from the very large pool of juniors (going to be seniors) and onward in high school.
In freshman year, I got a 4.5 gpa, but in sophomore year, I got a 4.22. Have any of you had a drop similar to this and did you end up well? I am motivated like no else for junior year. I am taking only 5 AP classes that I know I will do well in. I know ec’s are important too, but I’d like to focus on my gpa for this discussion. I want to finish with the very least of a 4.5 cumulative. That means I have to get about a 4.74 junior year, which is very possible. So, have any of you experienced this?
Weighted GPA doesn’t really say much since all high schools calculate it differently. It sounds like you don’t have much to worry about, a .3 drop isn’t much, especially when your GPA is already above 4.0. What’s your unweighted GPA for each year?
And what’s your choice of classes? GPA alone isn’t the thing – if you’re aiming for top colleges, they’ll want to see you challenging yourself and performing well. Taking fluff classes to guard a GPA is not looked at highly. Indeed, your initiative and actual thirst for knowledge is what top colleges are looking for – not your meticulous focus on a number. Thus, challenging yourself and not getting an A is perfectly fine.
