In other words, do colleges prefer that you take AP classes and receive Bs or that you take regular classes and receive As?

Also, if you were offered a chance to lower your UW GPA by some amount, up to a 1 point difference between UW and W GPAs, would you? So if you regularly had like a 3.9/4.5 would you rather it be a 3.5/4.5?

the first one probably because you have challenged yourself through highschool. Ideally a 4.0 with like a 4.7474564(made that up) student would have the best shot.

^ I agree. But you also have to show that you can succeed in challenging courses. Getting straight-Bs isn't bad, but it shows that you can't excel at the material. BUT, with that being said, I think that you should challenge yourself rather than being content with an easy A, but I think that you should rise to getting that A rather than being content with straight-Bs. Make sense?

Heh, my cum gpa was the one used in my last-most example, so I'm not too worried about that :p

The question was purely hypothetical. It was my hope to elicit responses of people wanting to lower their GPAs, but, alas, near everyone replied either to the first question alone or with encouragement...

If unweighted gpa is more important that would be so unfair for students who take mostly Ap/Honors classes (I'm one of them) because I know if I take regular classes I can easily get straight A+s and put more effort into SATs, EC's and community services in the meantime.
