i had a 3.9 freshman year in all honors classes. but my gpa for my first semester of sophomore year will be around 3.6/3.7. i'm taking the hardest classes they offer for sophomores. i've also started volunteering at a hospital this year so i've had to learn how to balance things. how will this affect admissions for highly selective colleges? and what can i do to show admission counselors that i wasn't slacking off or anything? thanks

I didn't do well my sophmore year either ( nor would I say I did bad), though it wasnt better compared to freshmen year. Try to increase your course load junior and senior year ( if you desire so), and improvement with your grades.

ok. they don't let sophomores take ap classes sophomore year so that's why i'm only taking the honors classes.

does anyone else have any input?

You're biggest problem is that struggling in honors courses may be indicative that you won't be successful in AP classes.
