GPA over 4.0

When you look on a college website like the princeton review, and it says average GPA: 4.04 or anything over 4.0, what exactly does this mean? is this weighted GPA? I don't think it's possible to get over a 4.0 at my school.

it probably means weighted

some schools like University of Maryland College park throw everyone's GPA in their numbers without converting it to the 4.0 scale, so they include people with like 4.7s out of 5s.

Some schools use the weighted grades that the schools give them, others convert everyone's GPA to a scale that is unique to that college and use this to compare everyone.

I would guess that a school like princeton would use weighted GPAs that they themselves decide upon. If your scool doesn't do weights you won't be put at a disadvantage.

ooo you meant princeton review lol

sorry about the mix up :)

Yea, I was looking at Clemson on the website princetonreview.com. I didn't think that you would need a 4.0 unweighted GPA to get in there.

Just to add a thought, not all schools weight the same. My high school gave an additional 0.2 for being in an AP/Honors class, in contrast to other schools that give 5.0 to an A in an AP/Honors class. I think many colleges recalculate GPAs to their own scale.
