Okay guys; I'm getting really sentimental about this nerve wracking question that is killing me.

Freshman year of high school: I did so bad. When I mean bad, I mean REALLY bad.

Math 10H
English 9H
AP World History
French 2
Earth Science
Gym
Digital Photography
Design and Drawing for Production
Computer Programming: Visual Basic

Honors and AP classes are given the same weighting: .5
I calculated my GPA and I ended up with a 2.7 GPA. OUCH! All thanks to AP World and Math 10H...

I went on to calculate my GPA if I HYPOTHETICALLY were to get a 4.0 GPA sophomore and junior year. I found out the highest GPA I can get cumulatively is a 3.6. Obviously that puts the GPA around a 85-89 range. I'm wondering if your major GPA counts more or if the cumulative GPA counts more for admissions to college. I've also heard that Princeton disregards freshman year. Does that mean they recalculate my GPA so then I would end up having a 4.0?

The colleges I am interested from first to last choice:

Princeton
NYU
Union College
GWU
Columbia (sister goes there so I know how it's like)
U. Michigan: Ann Arbor
BU
SUNY Stony Brook
SUNY Binghampton

St. Johns (Queens)

My sophomore schedule is this:

Math 11
English 10H
Global History 10H
AP Psychology
French 3
Biology
Gym
Advance Digital Photography

Do they have an AP French class or AP Enviornmental Science? IDK, I would think you could take Ap Enviornmental Science since you've taken earth science because that's how it is at my school.

Yeah I can take AP Enviro in 12th grade and AP French in 11th. My school has strict guidelines on what courses you can take. I just want to know if my GPA will hurt me during the admissions in cumulative terms.

I don't think you have a chance of getting into Princeton with a 3.6 GPA because their minimum is 3.7. What do you think your schedule will look like in 11-12th grade?

Yeah but Princeton discounts freshman year do they not? My GPA would then be at a 4.0 hypothetically speaking if I get all A+ soph and junior year.

Junior year

AP Lit
AP Bio
Chemistry Honors
AP Studio in Art 2D Design
AP Stats
APUSH

I really don't know yet. I'm not too keen on the future right now. I care about doing good in the present and hopefully that'll bring up results. I just want to know if my cumulative GPA will weigh more than my major GPA...

You're schedule looks challenging enough, but I'm not sure whether Princeton would totally disregard your freshman GPA. However, colleges do like it when students gradually increase their grades over the couse of the four years. I think you're doing well. :)

You're only a sophomore... no one can 'chance' you if you haven't even taken SATs/ACTs.
And I'm doubt Princeton disregards freshmen year. What source are you basing this off of?

Keep in mind, that while, yes, colleges and universities like seeing students who excel the entire way through high school, they do also like to see improvement. If you hypothetically got, and maintained, a 4.0, or even a 3.7 (and then some) throughout the rest of your high school career, it will reflect well on yourself.

Oh what...how many of these threads are there about how someone screwed up for a year (mainly freshman) and romanticize about their ideal college of their dreams?

you're fine (unlike me LOL) , now just concentrate on other important stuff.

^ Lol, I know.A word to those going to to High School, don't mess up Freshman year. It is not as important, but it is still part of High School.

Also, check the colleges you are applying to to see their polocies towards Freshman year.
