On my transcript, 3 different GPA's are listed
Acad GPA (9-12): 3.3077
Acad GPA (10-12): 3.4643
and Total GPA: 3.3256

Which is the one that colleges most closely look at?

Which is the one that colleges most closely look at?

I’m guessing total GPA includes credits you got from middle school?
I’m pretty sure it’s the 9-12 unless they say they don’t look at freshman yr.

The total GPA is EVERYTHING from my transcript, including athletics
Other than that, its the same as the first one
I was just hoping they look at the highest one, but im not sure

Chances are colleges will look at all of them and then look to the transcript to explain them. There seems to be a misconception that a numerical GPA is the most important part of the transcript for college admissions. However, GPAs, particularly weighted ones, say little about your high school experience, which is what many colleges are more interested in. Colleges are more interested in the last three years than the first, however. Some colleges (like Princeton) completely disregard the first year, while others would be more interested in an alright first year with an increase in the last 3 than excellent 9th grade grades and a decline over the final 3 years.

So the colleges won’t look at the highest one, but rather at your list of courses and your grades in them as a whole, rather than just basing their admission decision on 1, 2, or 3 numbers that themselves bear no real meaning.
