I'm a freshman, and I'm already starting to stress about college admissions. As far as unweighted GPA goes, my school considers 90-100 a 4 on the 4.0 scale. I've managed to get four 100 percents on my last report card. The rest are above a 95 percent. Will colleges see this on my transcript? Or will they just see that I got an "A"?

Sounds like your school has a lot of grade inflation.
But the percentages don’t matter as long as you got an A.

Thanks for your reply! Is this grade inflation a good or bad thing?

CALM. DOWN.

Here, child, is your freshmen year plan:
-Keep up the awesome grades
-Get involved in a club or two
-Maybe run for school council
-Volunteer a bit

Okay? Okay. Anyways, yeah, if it’s as long as it’s an A, UPenn won’t make much of a distinction.

Milkyway531 - Thank you for the advice! I’m in 3 clubs this year, but I’m stressing that’s it’s not enough! I feel like next year I’m going to have to step it up. And as far as volunteer hours, my goal is to get at least 100 hours this summer.

You’re going to burn yourself out if you keep it up at this rate. Yes, you should do extracurricular activities, but the ones you really want to do. If you’re interested in animals, maybe go volunteer at the local zoo. If you want to go into business, make a few phone calls and see if you can scope out a nearby corporate office complex. It’s not worth wasting your time with the sole goal of impressing an admissions committee by acquiring leadership positions in every club of your school or cranking out hundreds or even thousands of hours in activities you don’t enjoy. Loosen up, step back, and focus on satisfying yourself and not any particular school. Anxiety about your future can really become stuck in limbo if you go to a site like this with thousands of highly-driven individuals. Most importantly, don’t overload yourself. Seriously. You’re going to be fine when admissions time rolls around.

SkeezeyJ - Thank you! You’ve brought up many suggestions that I need to take into great consideration. I kind of am on the track of eventually burning out, so I need to really focus on the stuff I enjoy, since high school is extremely short. Thanks again! You gave me really good advice, and I appreciate it.

Ha if high school is extremely short, college is going to go by in the blink of an eye. I cannot believe this semester is already over and I’m 1/8th done with undergrad but it might just be me.

step 1-leave CC and don’t come back until you actually have to start your college applications

and just relax…seriously you’re being an idiot by posting threads worrying about college now…your grades are fine, as you very well seem to know, so don’t come here and post each quarter’s grades and repeatedly “freak out.”
as for ECs just do what you enjoy. “3 clubs” is not a huge amount (though I’m not sure how much time they take) unless they’re related to something you love. College admissions value a student who has dedicated a lot of time to one thing (a sport, an art, a particular volunteer area, etc) more than a student who has divided their time into ten thousand clubs.

now (and please don’t take this the wrong way, I mean it nicely) go away. CC is a great resource but at your stage in high school it’s just going to freak you out unnecessarily.

Good luck!
