I've heard that Ivies focus on different things... such as Columbia cares a little more about scores/GPA while Brown focuses a little more on ECs/essays. Is there any truth to this rumor?

Well, Brown's incoming freshman class does have the lowest percent out of the Ivies of students who were in the top 10% of their high school class, if that says anything.

From what I have seen Brown seems to be the most willing to go out on a limb and take a chance on somebody with lower GPA/scores. However, most of those accepted have the traditional high GPA/SAT, and the admissions rate falls drastically for those that don't meet that standard.

Thanks! Would you say a 3.6uw is low or just average? My SAT scores are pretty good but my GPA is really worrying me -- I've got 11 APs under my belt but I'm not sure if that justifies it.

3.6 is somewhat low. What is your class rank?

My school doesn't rank, but my counselor said I'm just at the edge of 10th percentile... but I'm pretty sure he's wrong, heh.

Check out princetonreview.com's summary on the school. Sorry; I'm too lazy to open a new window and check it out for you. Do it yourself.

I think Columbia's admissions are pretty random to be honest. I think they are the ones who are all about the essays

Yeah, I looked at both school's applications and Columbia asks for a personal essay while all I could find on Brown's was a few short answer questions :/

Brown's "Personal Statement" is the same as Columbia's Personal Essay.

On the other hand, Columbia asks questions like what your favorite newspaper/book/stuff to do is.
