GPA vs Transcript discrepancy

I seem to consistently get 92.4 final grades in certain classes. I'm a rising senior, and this year I have three A's, with the rest as 92s. I usually do fairly well, and then fail a quarter/midterm/whatever.

My transcript for four years is pretty clean; numerically it's not that bad, almost no classes below 90 (sigh. last year's AP physics C). Unfortunately, my GPA is awful. How do I explain this in an application?

You need to sit down with your teachers and/or your guidance counselor and figure out why this is happening. Something is not working right for you. Whatever it is, you need to get it sorted out before you go to college. The exams there are even more difficult, and classroom work often doesn’t count at all for the grades.
