Gpa

Does Rice consider your school's national ranking/reputation when looking at your GPA? I have a 3.65 UWGPA, but my school ranks in the top 25 in the nation, I was in the MYP program, and all my courses afterward were AP/honors with 2 IBs. It's very hard to get a +3.75 at my school. The AP/honors/MYP/IB classes in my school are very challenging, not a joke at all, although I know in some schools they can be. Does Rice take into account the rigor/rank/reputation of the school when assessing your GPA?

yes they do. What is your class rank? This matters a lot

I was in a similar boat with a cumulative average of an 82. I was second in my class and some 20 + points above the average. As a result, the 82 was a lot better than at first sight.

My school does not have class rank, just rough percentiles based on GPA, but I know that I am in the top 10%.That is as much as my school breaks it down. My graduating class size is about 500-600.

I think you will be fine. There is a space for your GC to tell Rice about your school. She can mention that the grading is hard and that you are doing well.

Top 10% helps a lot. This shows that you are well placed in the class with your GPA.

Make sure your test scores are good and you have good teacher recs and you have a good shot at getting in

Well I got a 34 ACT and I’m practically best buds with the teacher who wrote my recs, so I think I’m good there. Gah, waiting until April is so hard. D:

Thank you very much. :)

You are welcome. I think you will be fine. Make sure your essays are good and you have a good chance of getting in.

Good Luck!

I’m sure Rice will take that into account. As long as you do well on standardized tests, you should be fine. I’ve noticed on the stats forums that more people with low GPA and high SAT scores make it into the top universities than those with high GPA and low SAT…just FYI

^^ I don’t think that is necessarily true. Low GPA with high class rank maybe. But if you have a 2400 on the SAT and a 3.2 being 50th percentile, you probably won’t get in
