Hi there am realy confused on how gpa's are calculated, what i mena by that are they scored by Trimester(a semester with 3 terms) or by your avergae gpa per uyear.

Example:

if you got 3.5gpa on your first trimester and then you get 2.4 on your second trimester, will you just add the (3.5+2.4) and then divide by 2 so your new gpa will be 2.95. and then you score 3.8 on your 3rd timester so it will (3.8+2.9)/2= 3.3. its the smae thing with semesters or quarters add and divide.

or is a yearly thing, yoour freshman year you 3.5 and then sophomore you get 2.4. all you do here is add and divide, but you only do this annualy so not trimester.

There is a big difference the trimester or semster/quartely gives you 7+ chances to improve your gpa while the annual gpa system only allows you 4 times.

First, that depends on how your school handles it. It would be best to ask them if the grades are tracked by trimester or just end of year.

Second, your calculations are wrong. Your average after the second tri would be the average of one and two. The average after the third tri would be (3.8+3.5+2.4)/3 = 3.23. You misapply the weighting if you do the calculation your way.

I agree with Erin’s dad. Every school is different. You need to ask you GC how yours is handled.

Even if the GPA updates each trimester, the Cumulative GPA might only be calculated at the end of the school year. They might use the rolling average that is updated each term, or they might use only the Final Grade for each class.

There are a million nitpicky details that get handled differently and it is highly unlikely that any two schools are exactly identical in how they compute GPA.
