Gpa?

What's considered a good GPA for an undergraduate freshman at Duke? How about for students in Pratt versus those in Trinity? How much weight is placed on freshman year?

bump(10 char)

yeah, I was wondering that too. I tried looking up online if there were stats for the average gpa of freshmen, and couldn't find them.

4.0 is good. 0.0 is bad. You'll get class rank stats that come out once all the Fall grades are in, but generally, Duke won't publish GPA stats. As for weighting, the numerical average is just that - the quality points over the credits. For businesses and such, certainly an upward trend or maintained excellent would be better than going from a 3.6 freshman year to a 2.3 as a senior...

I'd really like to know this so I can better gauge my performance since it's obviously unreasonable to expect a 4.0 now.

I really would say that class rank is a better indicator than flat-out GPA.

how do we find out our rank?

ask someone from your guidance office, and they may tell you that they don't rank...in that case, ask if you're in the top 5%, 10%, etc.

it's on the bottom of your ACES history, about two weeks after each semester is closed

Do they rank Trinity and Pratt separately? It seems unfair for our GPAs to be compared to Arts and Crafts GPAs...(we all know they wouldn't have 4.0s if they had to take Math 103)

1.) For Trinity, at least, two weeks is very optimistic.

2.) Yes, Pratt and Trinity are separate. You will be surprised to hear that at least at the upper end, Pratt grades tend to be higher. That is, the top 10/30% thresholds are higher in Pratt than in Trinity.

This is, of course, not because Pratt courses are easier. (It may mean that while Pratt courses are harder, our engineering students work disproportionately even harder than that.)

Arts and Crafts GPA... lol nice.

Exams were actually a lifesaver for me and helped me in econ 55 (I really liked Timmins), chem 23 (didnt really like Toone), and math 103 (Levy was very good, but she's leaving next year so there goes another good 103 teacher).

But does anyone know a site or a person, who can tell us what kind of GPA to shoot for if we want to enter a certain career or grad school (besides the obvious med school)? With an engineering advisor who seems to be very interested in his own research, I really want to talk to someone who can answer my questions about GPA and ECs?

US News should have all this data published, at least for all the professional schools.

Does anyone know what the average gpa for a pratt senior in the say...top 30% of the class is? I know expecting a 4.0 is unrealistic by the time senior year rolls around, but I'd like a general ballpark figure. Anyone?
