I have a 4.1 GPA (weighted) and go to a top 100 public school. I have had a steady progression of schedule rigor and GPA each year (currently a junior) that my guidance counselor says is exaxtly what colleges are looking for. I am Hispanic and would like to apply early decision to Duke's Engineering school (I heard it is even easier to get into this school than regular). My senior schedule consists of 2 AP sciences and 2 AP maths, showing my interests in engineering. I expect to do very well in the beginning of my senior year.
I am a member of national honors society, a junior officer in the Amnesty International club, and I write for the school newspaper (some other clubs that aren't that inportant). I have also participated in the NJML math contests every year every time there is one. I played 2 sports freshman year and have continued 1 and will continue it all throughout high school. I went to the Dominican Republic over the summer for 10 days as a service trip. I will work at a kids camp over the summer. I have tutored at the YMCA and tutor kids in my neighborhood. All 4s and 5s on AP exams, and a 30 first time on ACT but planning to get it up to a 32. What are my chances for getting into the Duke engineering school, with early decision and my ethnic background (Hispanic, if that really makes a difference)

I am not sure what you mean by: “(I heard it is even easier to get into this school than regular)”? Do you mean Pratt vs Trinity?

ACT/SAT scores in Pratt (engineering) are higher on average than Trinity (liberal arts). Less kids apply to Pratt than Trinity. Trinity enrolls ~1,300 while Pratt enrolls ~350 for the freshman class. I think the percentage of kids who get accepted to Trinity are lower than Pratt. So, if you are looking at overall odds, Trinity is harder, but the standardized test scores in Pratt are higher. Last year Duke’s (Trinity and Pratt combined) 25% - 75% ACT was 30-34. Pratt was 33-35. I am not sure what the ACT scores were for Trinity, but they were obviously lower. I am not familiar with the SAT scores, but I assume they are similar. URM status should help. I think you will be OK if you get the ACT up to a 32 or 33.

Bump for more opinions

You’ll need to get the ACT score up. What’s the scale for your weighted GPA? 4.1/5 would probably be a little low too. Probably be able to give you a little more guidance if you gave a little more detail for your extracurriculars.
