GPAs

It seems like all the UC’s average accepted GPAs are really high. I want to go to UCI and my weighted GPA is a 3.8 and that’s around their average, I think. But…this seems like a stupid question…why are their GPAs so high and yet their average SATs are so so?

There GPA's are weighted and if u think about it the system is designed for the top 12.5% of all high schoolers. My high school is a decent school (API 722) and a 3.6 unweighted is only top 20 percentile. UC weight assuming added 8 points total would give close to a 4.0. Thats only top 20% in my school. Think about the schools with API scores in the 800's to 900's like Gunn, San Marino, lynbrook and the privates etc.

Well, there are plenty of studious students who suck at taking tests. That's a possibility. Perhaps high school grade inflation. That may be another.
