So I was accepted to a graduate program in December, however in the beginning of this month (February) got a misdemeanor for possession of marijuana. I should be able to get a pretrial intervention as this is my first offense, and will be able to complete the six months of probation before the program starts. My question is, if I’ve already been accepted, should I let any of the program directors, etc. know about this? Any help is much appreciated
I don’t believe this misdemeanor would be a deal breaker. You obviously have the work ethic to have been accepted into the program. That being said, if the school were to find out about it, then it should be from you. If for no other reason than it shows character, which can only be seen as a plus. Good luck with this decision.
I don’t know what program you plan on going to grad school for but I can reassure you that a lot of UF programs(I have experience with their law and agricultural majors) will drop you for not disclosing it but most of the time do not hold it against you for getting it if you disclose it.
