My S has been accepted to graduate school at Tel Aviv University and will be attending. Does anyone have any experience with kids attending school in Israel for any length of time? He will be getting an MA in Political Science concentrating in Security and Diplomacy. The program is at least a year, and he intends to live off campus. I'd love to hear from anyone with experiences in Israel, or with long-term study abroad. Tips, recommendations etc. are all welcome!

Our daughter studied for a year and lived on a kibbutz outside Jerusalem. She had a fantastic experience and has considered going to grad school there (specifically, [Study abroad in Israel - IDC Herzliya](http://portal.idc.ac.il/en/main/homepage/Pages/homepage.aspx)). Certainly there are a number of good deals, as Israel does a better job of subsidizing higher education than the US of A. A good friend of my daughter’s just enrolled at The Hebrew University in Jerusalem, to get an MBA.

Tel Aviv is a more modern and cosmopolitan city than Jerusalem, and it has great beaches! It looks like a great place to go to school. Pretty much everybody speaks good English, so communication is not an issue. If you are worried about your son’s security, Tel Aviv is far from the areas where there may be a concern on that front.

I know people who have done graduate work at Tel Aviv in economics and computer science.
They had professors who previously taught at Harvard. They returned to the U.S to be very successful - their Tel Aviv degree was a plus.

Haaretz recently ran an article concerning the rank and quality of Tel Aviv University.

Thank you. He’s really looking forward to it, and is now beginning to connect with other students to try and find an apartment beginning in August.
