I posted on here a while back when I was trying to get my appointment. It’s sad looking back at those posts, seeing how dumb I sounded haha. Anyway, I am currently a 3-deg almost to prog with around a 2.7 cum GPA. PEA is alright but MPA is not looking good. I would like to go to grad school and was wondering what opportunities are available right out of here or within a year or two? I know you can compete within departments but I also know there’s stuff like GSP, etc. What did you do for grad school and how could I get grad school without extending my commitment for too long?

Talk to your USAFA academic advisor. S/he will have all those answers. Why would you ask these type of questions here when you have so many resources for getting accurate answers at USAFA?

I did go in to the different departments that make up Ops Research but the people that could usually help aren’t there because of the shutdown. My counselor also told of all the opportunities but they didn’t have any numbers or stats. I just wanted to know if any recent grads could give me a general idea of what a USAFA grad school candidate looks like. Thanks anyway!

3.0 and 3.25 are some magic GPA numbers. You’ll be out of the running for a lot of scholarships if you don’t have that.

Go talk with some DF types for specifics, and firsties for application info. They’ll have the most up to date knowledge.

I certainly hope they return in time for your grad school applications. In the mean time you could work on improving your GPA. I’m surprised your academic advisor couldn’t answer the following question:
“how could I get grad school without extending my commitment for too long?”
Good luck!

Biggest thing is get your GPA up or else you won’t have a chance. Either end of two deg or beginning of firstie year there will be a mass brief for everyone who’s eligible for any of the scholarship options that USAFA has that year. It varies year to year, so none of us will know for sure. Basically just work on improving your GPA and then cross that bridge when you get there. And if you don’t get right away, your first squadron will have info on keeping for an AFIT slot or what not depending on what career field you’re in.

Most officers work on grad degrees while serving. It is possible to be sent to grad school but you need to add a full point to your Gpa to be competitive.
