Hey everyone,

I was admitted to UCD yesterday with a really NICE financial aid offer. I really is going to be a competitive offer for me when I end up deciding. Going to grad school is really important for me in engineering and I am dead set on it. Thus it is a deciding factor for me. However I was curious as to how UCD graduates stand in terms of grad school for computer/electrical engineering? As in, what percentage of UCD graduates get admission to top level graduate schools for computer/electrical engineering? I know it seems like I’m jumping ahead but it really is important to me.

tl;dr Grad school is important for my decision. Will UCD give me a good shot at top level engineering grad schools?

I have known some UCD graduates who went on to top ten graduate programs. Of course, the better the reputation of the school, the better for any application. However, the most important part to getting into a top level computer/electrical engineering program is publications and research experience. Someone with first author publications in top conferences is going to be a strong candidate no matter which school they came from. Talk to your advisor and professors and try to get involved in a research lab as soon as possible. Make good use of your summers with research on campus, research experience for undergraduate programs at other campuses, or relevant internships. Looking into funding opportunities to visit conferences and use the experience to help with your submissions. Wherever you go, keep this in mind, remain focused and make good use of the resources available to you and you will be a strong candidate for graduate programs.
