Grad student seeks roommate: suggestions?

The daughter of some friends has leased an two bedroom apartment at The Grove and needs a roommate. The young woman is beginning a graduate program in Peabody School and is from out of state. I wonder if any of you have suggestions where she might post or list an advertisement for a roommate. she will arrive in Nashville and take occupancy week of August 12 and second bedroom is available immediately. Her lease is through August 31, 2013. She's tried Craigslist and other general avenues but we'd love Vanderbilt-specific suggestions, i.e. coffee shops, bulletin boards, campus newspapers. Thanks very much for any suggestions!

I’d say your best bet is posting flyers in the graduate student lounge in the upper-levels of buttrick. Most undergrads have had their housing finalized since the end of last semester so that’s probably out of the question, but there may be some grad students still searching for someplace cheap to stay

She might try listing in the classified ads for faculty and staff. I don’t know how you make a listing, but the ads are found on the website by selecting faculty & staff and then selecting MyVU. Once that page loads, the ads will be in the top right hand corner. Vandy3023’s suggestions are valid as well, except I know what apartments at The Grove rent for and she’ll need to find someone whose criteria is not cheap! The Grove is a very nice address for a student.

The Office of Residential Life has a listing of available places … she can post an opening in her place on it. Lots of grad students do that. Belmont has a similar list that she could post on, I believe.

D just moved from Nashville, and her former roommate (an OSU grad) advertised the opening on her sorority board. A young lady who was moving to Nashville ended up seeing it, and she took D’s spot in the apartment.

When D needed to find a roommate after graduation, she used Craigslist. She found her new roommates in Chicago that way, too. The right person needs to see it at the right time.
