Summer in Nashville

My DD is planning on working at the school for the summer. She can’t find anyone to room with. Any ideas on an apartment located near campus. Her friend’s mom has a condo near the school and is renting it for $1,800 a month (2 bedroom, 2 bath furnished). Just seems like a lot when she’ll be working 40 hours a week making only $10 an hour.

You might have some luck monitoring the Vanderbilt Classifieds in the myVU section of the school website. Sometimes people post summer sublets there.http://news.vanderbilt.edu/myvu/

Vanderbilt offers housing but it’s pretty expensive I think

Grad students usually have apartments in the area and make a bunch of postings on craigs list. It’s usually pretty cheap but it can get pretty expensive if you wait too long

This is what people told me last year when I was looking for housing for a research internship.

Vanderbilt does offer housing (dorms) during the summer but it is shockingly expensive. No idea why they do this.

As Suffer mentioned, I’d recommend using Craigslist. Look in the “Rooms/Shares” section and “Sublets & Temporary Housing” sections. Also try her class Facebook page to find roommates; you open up your options when you have at least two people. Many students stay in the summer and need housing. The cheapest option is typically a sublease on a house a couple blocks away from the school. Apartments near Vandy are not cheap. It is a big problem in Nashville right now as the population grows faster than the housing options.

My son found a sublet last summer on Craigslist. It was outside of Nashville (Antioch) and was about $650/mo
