Grade Appeal Process

My grades for the semester are pretty much complete and I was curious if there was some sort of grade appeal process. I need a B in w131 to be admitted to kelley automatically and my final grade ended up being a 82.8% and my professor said he does not round up. I went into the last paper with a 81.8% and earned a 267/300 (89%) on my final paper. However, my teacher gave me a 40/50 on participation even though I sit in the very front row and make comments almost every class. I just don't want my denial from kelley coming down to two measly points and will pursue any actions that may cause my grade to be raised. Also a word of advice. w131 is EXTREMELY tough so try to take it over the summer before coming to IU or take c104 instead (if you aren't a direct admit).

There is: [Grade Appeals Process : Academic Bulletin](<a href=“Indiana University”>Indiana University)

However, your situation doesn’t follow into any of the three categories that they use to allow grade appeals. Unfortunately, just sitting in the front row and making comments ‘almost every class’ doesn’t necessarily earn you a 50/50.

If you haven’t already asked the teacher for additional participation points and explained you are trying to get into Kelley, that should be your first step. You have absolutely nothing to lose. Just be respectful and make your case for why you deserve the points. My daughter frequently argues the case for points and gets them.

I have emailed my teacher several times with no response. I am driving to Bloomington today to discuss my issue with the department. Any other additional advice?

Well that really stinks that the teacher has not responded to the emails. My daughter says grades are due tonight, so I guess you are making the right move to drive there today and talk to them. I can’t think of anything else you can do, but good luck to you!

I ended up getting screwed out of my B. My teacher noticed the wrong grade entry so my final grade ended up getting pushed over a 83% needed for a B but in his class the threshold to attain a B is a 84%. Anyone got an opinion on my chance of getting into Kelley?

If you were significantly involved in extracurriculars first semester, that may help you. The B- definitely hurts chances. If you don’t get into Kelley, you can always go to SPEA.

Oh, lord. Please no more “if you don’t get into Kelley, you can always go to SPEA” comments. That’s history.
