Grade Deflation: Myth or Reality?

Hi! As a HS Junior I am researching Liberal Art Colleges, and have read a lot of mixed reviews about Grade Deflation at Davidson. I would appreciate opinions by current students to see what it´s really like. Thanks!

I am also interested in this topic and would love to hear from others.

I’m neither a current student nor a current parent - but my son graduated from Davidson Class of 2011 and my daughter Class of 2012. And, although I’m not sure you’d call it grade deflation, I can tell you that Davidson is a very rigorous school and that grades are earned. That said, at their graduations there were plenty of Magna Cum Laude and Summa Cum Laude graduates. So someone was getting just as many (or more) A’s as B’s. You can do well - just expect to work hard for what you get.

Thank you for taking the time to answer stanford78!

Davidson has a lot of the things that I am looking for, but it caught my attention that in different forums many people mentioned the term “Grade Deflation”. I´d never heard of anything like it, so I thought it was better to ask directly.

I don´t expect anyone to give me a grade I don´t deserve, and I am used to working hard, so if that´s the issue it does not matter to me. I would however, be concerned if low grades were given out on purpose just for keeping a certain reputation, but it would seem unprofessional for such a prestigious school to do something like that!
