Grade deflation

Is grade deflation an actual policy at BU, or is it just something most professors follow? How hard is it to maintain a good (3.5+) GPA under this system?

well it depends on your classes...if you're pre-med or an engineering major or something of the sort...hard. but i maintained a 3.5 my first year so just work at it.

Summary:
The Academic Provost has been meeting with the new Academic Provost at Boston University to tackle several issues. The Committee is working to get course syllabi, books, and course evaluations online so that students will have easy access to them well ahead of choosing their classes. The Committee also met with the new President Brown in order to tackle the issue of grade deflation. A formal policy to officially denounce grade deflation is currently being developed, and campus-wide research is being conducted to find individual courses that deflate grades.

Although statistically it does not appear to be significant it seems to occur in certain, usually larger, classes in the past so best bet to avoid the handful of professors that may use a rigid curve is to get feedback on BUnite section of Live Journal or on ratemyproffesor.com

The problem is not necessarily with the professors, but with the curves for many intro level courses. Many departments mandate a B- median for their intro courses, which results in nearly 50% of students getting some form of C.

Mandate ? They deny any policy or expectation related to curve grades. Is that actually written any where that makes it officially or just "rumor".
