If stanford is really a holistic school. Would they evaluate your courses and the classes you took or just look at your whole grade and count you out? I have received all A’s in ib courses and AP (as well as dual enrollment) but i have a totall of 5 B’s and 2 C’s in my regular courses. Would they see it as a growth since I got better grades in advanced courses or would they count me out?
Since it is holistic, they will look at the whole picture. However, as unfortunate as it is, because Stanford has so many amazing applicants applying, your chances will be slim with those Cs.
This is my guess based on friends I had at Stanford. If you have an exceptional accomplishment in some area or have a compelling story presented well in your essay, those are given substantially more weight than a couple of grades. Also if you have good SAT or ACT test scores, my guess is that it would take precedent over the grades.
When talking about a college with some of the fiercest competition, it’s going to be more than “improvement.” They need to know you’re fully prepared for the level of coursework, professor expectations, and what your peers bring to the table. (And that’s just the starter.) Sorry, but, on the face of it, 5 B and 2 C is a lot of ‘less than A.’ You may want to explain more here.
