grade inflation/deflation

I'm not too clear on each definition, could someone please define these terms? possibly provide examples from your own college/some colleges out there? thank you!

Grade inflation means that it is easier to get an A, grade deflation means it is harder to get a good grade.

In a grade inflated class, 60% of the students might receive an A, and not a single person fail as long as they show up. This is bad because it makes the A meaningless.

In a grade deflated class, 10% of the class might get an A. Consequentially, some bright and hard-working students will get a B just because they couldn’t beat the curve.

in general, how about bio/chem classes? Are they usually inflated or deflated?

will other colleges know, for grad school for example, if the university you attended inflated or deflated grades? Wouldn’t everyone want inflated classes?
