Hi guys, I am trying to improve my essay and I would appreciate your help grading this one.

Thanks in advance!

Prompt: Is it always best to determine ones own views of right and rong, or can we benefit from following the crowd?

Determining one's personal views of what is right and what is wrong is always beneficial. If we do not blindly follow the crowd, we will be able to achieve our goals and realize our dreams. Several examples from history and business clearly demonstrate that deciding what is right and what is not can only bring benefits.

In his life, Galileo Galilei has achieved greatness because of him not being dependent on other's beliefs. Galileo lived in a society ruled by the church, which proscribed publishing any controversial scientific works. Neverhteless, Galileo published his book defending heliocentrism and, as a consequence, the church imprisoned him for the rest of his life. Even though Galileo suffered because he decided it was right to publish his work, his action laid the foundation of modern science. Moreover, because he dared to take the risk, he motivated a majority of scientists to not conform and, as a result, they enriched science and propelled the society to development. Therefore, had it not been for Galilei determining for himself what was right, science would not have reached such a level of development and usefulness.

In the middle of the past century, because Rosa Parks listened to herself, she managed to start a movement which later led to the equality among Americans. Rosa Parks was an African American woman who, as every other Afro-American, was oppressed and treated unfairly in the society. For instance, a policy stated that African Americans must give up their bus seats so that white people have a seat. However, when on December 1 1955 Rosa was told to stand up and leave the bus, she audaciously refused. As a result, she got imprisoned but she also caused the Montgomery Bus Boycott which later led to equality among Americans. Hence, as a result of Rosa deciding for herself what to do, she stirred millions of people into action to defend a cause. Moreover, Parks became the person who is responsible fo the end of racial segregation in the USA.

As illustrated by the CEO of General Electric, Jack Welch, listening to your own judgement is highly beneficial. Contrary to the managers of GE before Jack, he believed that bureaucracy should be removed and employees should be divided into classes so that they improve their productivity. Consequently, after he applied his ideas and methods, the company became the most valuable one with market capitalization of over 200 billions dollars. Thus, Welch listened to himself and achieved unprecedented success. Moreover, he set an example for the CEOs of other companies and, as a result, the entire American economy started to develop rapidly.

After a careful analysis of Galilei, Parks, and Welch, relying on your own judgement for what is right and wrong is, indeed, crucial to reaching eminent levels of personal and professional development. Because of the people who listen to themselves, our society is incessantly improving. Without one's own judgement, only failure can prevail.

So, what do you think?
