There are individuals who believe an elongated high school career is beneficial for students because it gives them the opportunity to accumulate adroit skills and fulfilling experiences which will prove useful for their upcoming college years. On the other hand, others assert high school years must be at a standard of four years because it is not deemed necessary. An extra year would be too excessive. The benefits of having solely four years far outweigh the consequences of having an extra one.

To begin with, having five years of high school would delay a student's education by a year if they are planning to pursue further studies. For careers that require several years of education, such as becoming a physician or an engineer, it is not efficient to have an extra year. It is a waste of time for a student to linger around in high school learning information which would more or less not benefit them. It is best to go to college, where the student can learn content to which they are specifically interested in.

Pursuing this further, high school students would becoming disinterested with what is being taught if they were to stay for an extra year. there are set standards to which is to be learned for each student in order for them to get accepted into a college. For instance, they must complete four years of math or three years of a science. If students have already completed all college requirements, what will instigate their motivation to learn more than what is necessary? Students will if they are highly passionate about the subject, but a majority of students will just adhere to the standards, and therefore, not come to school on a regular basis.

While some educators say having an extra year will enable students to commit to extracurriculars longer and participate in more activities, it is also true that they can continue doing these same activities in high school as well. Colleges offer the same opportunities - if not, even more. For instance, I am an athlete and participate in school sports such as cross country and basketball. Since I'm genuinely passionate about these sports, I will join intramural sports clubs when I go to college. High school is not the end to all your extracurriculars. You have college and even the rest f your life to pursue the things which you enjoy.

Clearly, the reasons stated above explicitly disprove the claim that high schools should be elongated for an additional year. For many students, college serves as an opportunity to start fresh and to embark on a new journey. So, why must we delay that? Four years of high school prepare students well for their next step in life. They learn the proper curriculum and standards to become successful later on. We do not need five years to ensure whether students are sufficiently prepared or not.

i meant to say **can continue doing these same activities in COLLEGE as well

12/12

VERY GORD VERY GORD

Definitely an 11 or 12. Make sure you get to three pages! Although noone wants to admit, length is a serious factor! One thing I suggest is learning some good quality vocabulary that can be used in prompts universally.

Words like dynamism, corollary, evocative, imbroglio, quintessential, etc.

Other options would be learning some good examples from history and literature to blend with your reasoning. You have good reasoning but at times it can seem too much of your own opinion. You’ll do well as you are, but it’s worth considering using some examples such as:

Penghu, chinese general in the Qing Dynasty. Use him for whatever you what. Make up his story to fit your needs.

Lastly, one or two quotes will blast your essay into a 12.

They don’t have to be true. If needed just make up something smart sounding and assign it to an author who is known but not popular. Peolpe I used are like Adlai Stevenson the first, he was vice president and his son Adlai Stevenson the 2nd ran for president.

Good luck!
