Grade Optional Colleges?

What other grade optional colleges are there? I’m only aware of one - The Evergreen State College up in Washington State, but there must be others. Students there get “Narrative Evaluations”.

look at Bennington

So Brown just has A, B, C, and…Fail? Where do the performances that would have garnered a ‘D’ go? Into the ‘C’ bin or the ‘Fail’ bin?

Hmmmm…I just looked at that short description again and it appears that there might not even be a ‘Fail’ bin.

Brown does not have Fail. For Brown if you get below a "C: you do not get credit for the class, so there is no bin to put some non existent thing into an existent thing. You will have to make up another class in your schedule somewhere. I have never heard of a narrative eval given at Brown but it is possible I just haven’t heard of it. Any course can be taken S/Ncr and some are mandatory for that, like one my dd took was fiction writing workshop. Maybe there was a narrative eval for that–would make sense.

New College of Florida
Sara Lawrence
Hampshire
Reed
Antioch

UC Santa Cruz used to but I don’t know the status of that currently.

Hampshire gives written evaluations instead of grades.
