I’m applying to Andover, Exeter, SMS, Choate, Hotchkiss, Loomis, NMH, Concord, and Brooks. I have a 3.9W/UW GPA but my school’s grading scale is sort of weird.
98-100 A+ 4.3
95-97 A 4.0
93-94 A- 3.67
90-92 B+ 3.4
87-89 B 3
85-86 B- 2.67
82-84 C+ 2.4
80-81 C 2.0
75-79 C- 1.67
72-74 D+ 1.4
71 D 1.0
70 D- .67
0-69 F 0.0
Last year I pulled an A-, 2 Bs, and a C+ due to stuff I’ve explained too many times. Will the schools I’m applying to see they’re really 94, 89, 89, and 84, and reweight them using their own scale?
Also- do I need to have my guidance office send my college transcript to the schools?
If your transcript shows numbers, then they’ll see numbers. If the transcript shows letters, then they’ll see letters.
Doubtful. My guess is some might, but most won’t. The AO will evaluate in context. It is what it is, and you have no control over it, so let it go.
Which you should not explain in your app. That’s for the GC. And yes, I do remember that you are having issues with the GC, but any explanation from you, no matter how you word it, may sound as whining or making excuses.
If your school has it, the GC will probably send automatically. Whether the BS wants it should be outlined in the application instructions. If unclear, ask. You won’t be hurt by sending in too many transcripts, but sending too few is a problem.
@skieurope Thanks for the insight! I meant I’ve explained it here too much, not on my apps. I’ve been told by friends from other schools my grading scale is strange, and it’s much different from my old school’s, so it weirds me out a lil bit! I’m not sure if my guidance office has it, I’ll ask. Thank you
