Grade upward Trend?

Hey guys, how does Upenn view an upward trend grade? And how do they calculate GPA?

I kind of got really screwed over this year with bad teachers in all of my classes.

I got 1 B+ (2nd sem) freshmen year in Algebra 2 (H), the only honors class that year.

This year,
Im taking
-English 10 Honors (I got worst teacher)
-PreCalculus Honors (harder than AP Calc BC at my school)
-Chemistry Honors (hard, but good teacher)
-AP Computer Science (easy, and okay teacher)
-French 2
-Advanced Choir

The thing, is I’m gonna get a C in Precalc Honors this year, and probably a B+ in english 10 honors. Im worried that my downward trend in math (A/B+/C) looks really bad. If I pull my act together and get A’s for the rest of high shool, will it look good for UPenn as an upward trend?

I will be taking Junior year:
-CP English 11
-US history Honors
-AP Calculus BC
-AP Chemistry
-Advanced CHoir
-French 3

Senior Year:
-CP English 12
-AP Gov
-AP Stats
-Human Physiology
-AP French
-Advanced Choir

It may look like im taking few AP and honors classes, but Precalculus Honors (10th ) is notoriously difficult and AP Calc and AP Chem are considered hardest AP classes in school, and AP French (12th) is considered to be pretty hard too.

Are you a current sophomore? I think UPenn, like all colleges looks for an upward grade trend but honestly, its too early for you to worry about that. Even if you get a C in precalc first semester, if you get really good grades second semester it will average out to a decent grade. Focus on pulling those grades up and dont worry about the future too much, good luck!!!

Also not sure if you know but upenn will only see your final grades for each year

Depends on the HS; many include semester/trimester grades on the transcript.

I am not sure there are schools in US which issue only year end grades. Sounds very uncommon for US. It is common in other countries.

Never a good idea to blame a grade on a teacher, or in your case several teachers. You need to find a way to make it work and own it. Learn that lesson now and you will be better off in college

Sorry for the confusion!

I meant im gonna get a C first semester in Precalc Honors
and I got a A/B+ in Algebra 2 Honors last year

yes, its semester grades.
