I'm pretty sure I want to attend Columbia and eventually want to go to b-school. Keeping that in mind, how is the grading policy. Is there rampant grade inflation like Harvard or is it very tough? Thanks

Columbia is the second most difficult Ivy to get out of with only 27% of the class graduating with honors.

The average GPA at Columbia College is around 3.6.

Now, is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Not really sure...I mean, it is a good thing for school reputation, but for students life is fairly difficult academically. Then again, this is Columbia.

Would you rather float by somewhere else and then realize oh crap I forgot to learn?

that sure would be a waste of a lot of money.

Then Columbian students would have a more difficult time with Med school admissions, right?

it's tricky to try to compare schools when you've only got one school to compare. in general, though, i think you'll find columbia students do pretty darn well after graduating...

i don't think you'll starve =)

Stop worrying so much, axlifter. If you can get into Columbia for college, you can do it again for grad school.

Wait, are you guys saying that a 3.6 is low? Wow. That's major inflation. UNC's average is around 3. Is the 3.6 on a 5 pt grading scale?

3.6 is darn good.

well, at columbia, it's average.

What about Fu?

I'm sure its a lot lower

are you saying that the kids at Fu are less intelligent than the kids at CC?

I'm not sure what thethoughtprocess is saying, but the GPA at Fu is usually lower because the classes are a LOT harder than CC (No offense ;)) and grades are rarely inflated and curved.

i think NYC will be very distracting and pull down my grades =/

so who's the hardest ivy if columbia's second ?

lol, no carpe, I'm saying that the classes are harder.

wow..a 3.6 is average. i wonder how many 4.0 there is
