How hard is it to get good grades at Columbia

Depends on what courses you take, what extracurriculars you're involved in, how hard you study, and how hard you play. Obviously.

That said, it's easier to get good grades in maths courses than humanities.

From what I can tell, Columbia has less grade inflation than, say, Harvard or Stanford.

The average GPA in CC is around 3.5. And that includes the science courses that weight it down.

what about dean's list students?

I'm not sure what you're asking about the deans list. You want to know the criteria?

I think I read somewhere that you need a 3.6 for Dean's List.

Columbia2002 -- Is the 3.5 average gpa based on your observations, or did you see it reported somewhere? I believe I read that Columbia restricts its Latin honors to the top 25% of the class, and that is a gpa of around 3.6 or so, which makes an average gpa of 3.5 seem high. But maybe you are more up to date, or I am remembering wrong.

A recent online source (I don't remember what or where) indicated that as of a couple of years ago the average GPA at Columbia College was 3.36. Harvard was 3.41, Stanford was 3.45.

Students at the College need a 3.6 taking at least 12 units with no withdrawals, D's, or F's to be on the Dean's list (to be honest, it's not that hard; most freshmen get on it). SEAS kiddos need a 3.5 with 15 units.

can/have any students ever taken 4 classes instead of 5?
i feel like i want to adjust myself, and not feel to overwhelmed first semester..

what classes should i take if i am a biochem major.....

obviously i have lit hum, frontiers, and chem what else i need atleast two classes right?

students can take 4 classes...a current student that i met at the advising session in LA was an athlete so she took 4 classes her first semester and said she didnt feel behind or anything -- she said take what you feel comfortable with, because you can always add on another class second semester...hope this helps :)

12 units minimum each semester; I'm sure it's been done, but the average student takes around 15-16.

I've seen the average GPA data in print, but I can't find it right away. I did find this, though:

So, half the people in any given class are getting at least an A-.

This is a typical Ivy-league statistic, except for Cornell and Princeton.
