Hey guys, I've been gone for a long time on this forum but am getting really worried about my grades for second semester. I think i will be getting a C in French and B's in pretty much every other class. I have never gotten a C before in school. But before u sign it off as a bad case of senioritis, i had to go through a lot of crap during third quarter. My dad had been living in california sinbce my junior year, and i suspected things were strained between my mom and him, but they told me that they were divorced in late November. I havent told my little brother and my dad doesnt think i should. This was my second time losing a "mom," as my biological mother had passed away when i was 11. I was depressed for a long time, but really didn't tell anyone about it and my grades suffered. But fortunately i have some great teachers and they helped me through. i didnt really tell my parents... I guess im just wondering how badly Princeton will see this and if this is grounds for to bar my admission. please help. : /

U'll be fine. As long as you don't have any C's in your final grades, they won't care that much.

i will have a C...

i'd say just call and tell them that you were under additional emotional strain during the end of ur senior year and whatnot and hope they understand.

i asked my gc to write a letter explaining that.. they will undoubtedly frown on the C, but will it be grounds for a revoking of my admission? Maybe I should just email princeton and tell them myself

Oh, sorry, I thought you meant one semester. I didn't know it was your final grade for the year.

No, they wont revoke your admission.

I heard that Princeton gives u a chance to explain yourself after they receive ur grades, is this true?

1 C isn't gonna do much as long as it is in a class and you have a reasonably decent excuse for getting that C.

hobbes - sorry about your situation man. Try not to worry too much. As you've explained, your grades are not a case of "senoritis" or slacking off. You were depressed and went through a lot. I think it's best if your GC sends a note expressing that although your grades are lower than expected, that you did your best and coped quite well given the circumstances. And I think you should contact Princeton by letter or email to honestly explain your situation yourself in your own words. Just tell them exactly what happened as above and maybe have a positive light to throw on the situation like you went for counseling or you're planning to take a summer course to brush up or something. Just emphasize that you'll be ready for the academic and social demands at Princeton by the fall (if you are). Good luck. Hope this helps :)

Sorry to hear about this hobbes...but as gianievve said, your GC can help a lot in the process, so I wouldnt worry if I were you. I'm also in a similar situation, my grades for the second semester are down the toilet - literally. I had a 4.4 weighted 1st Semester, and now its close to a 4.1 :( Its not senioritis, but my confusion on majors and worry about the health of my dad...just KILLED my grades.

i hope Princeton sympathizes with you. life is more important sometimes, and I'm glad that you didn't take the other route, which sometimes spells "suicide"

good luck, and I hope Pton welcomes you with open arms! :)
