Grades vs. SATs

I’ve heard conflicting opinions on what’s really more important/weighed more heavily on the Penn application. Some say grades are way more important, but others focus on the SATs as being a large component of a good application. Any thoughts?

Also, for Penn, the average SAT ranges are widely available on the Internet. But what kind of GPA is considered “average” or “good” in a Penn applicant pool? Your thoughts/input would be appreciated.

everything matters. its holistic. gpa will be considered based on your schools ranking system.

What if my school has no class rank?

well keep in mind 2 things

1) SATs are used in the formulas for college rankings. and believe me, colleges really do care about this

2) Many people (im not saying its right) view high gpa + low SAT's to mean grade inflation

For what it's worth, I think grades count more. At least i think they will for me, because my final exams are the same across the country but aren't multiple choice (and I'm international so learn different stuff). If you get 2400, but have a bad GPA, i don't think it'll help much, but if you get, say, 2000 (I'm pulling numbers out of the air here, I have no clue what's considered average/bad), but have a brilliant GPA, I don't think it'll affect you too badly. :) Like I said though, I'm international so it's different for me...
