How hard is it to get a solid 4.0 from Bowdoin, mostly for the majors of History and Philosophy?

hard, since there's no A+ here. You miss a singe A, even for an A-, and you lose the 4.0

Yeah, getting a 4.0 here is pretty hard, unless you just take easy classes. In addition, the Philosophy department is regarded as one of the lowest-grading departments here, based on avg. grades given out by each department.

which departments are regarded as being easier? the departments in which I'm interested are government, classics, history, and English...

don't come to Bowdoin for an 'easy' department. Come to bowdoin for a 'strong' department. That's what matters. 4.0 doesn't matter at all. Come somewhere where the professors will inspire you to greater heights.

word, Oliver, word.

PS If you want to study gov and english and history, come to Bowdoin. Those are 3 of its 4 or 5 top programs. Classics is good too, but the dept is really small.
