How’s the grading at bowdoin? (are grades typically inflated or deflated) I’d likely major in political science and take the necessary courses to apply to med or dental school. How achievable would it be to get A’s across the board?? Many thanks

I think when you go to any academically challenging school there will typically be no easy A's. It will depend on how much work you put into it and respond to what your professor is asking you to do. It isn't impossible yet not easy. I think coming into Bowdoin you should be more about learning and broadening your horizons than about getting A's across the board. By all means be motivated(I plan on law school) but don't let the fear of not getting straight A's discount your education. Bowdoin has a 91% acceptance rate to med school which is higher than the nation 50% average so med schools obviously like Bowdoin students. I almost made a similar decision and I figured it's better to learn to work hard for great grades now in undergrad with really smart, motivated people than struggle in grad school with even smarter more motivated people.

Grades depend on you. I know people who killed themselves at Bowdoin for grades, and they did ok. I know people who never worked terrifically hard at Bowdoin, and they did ok too. What's your work style like in high school?

Bowdoin students apparently joke about the “Bowdoin B”- where everyone works their butt off, but can only get to the B. I don’t know if they put caps on the number of A’s, like Stanford does.
They also recently got rid of their Credit/D/Fail policy, which many students practically depended upon in the instance of classes too difficult to reach an A.

So classes are HARD, but there are always those extra, on-the-side, easy classes as well.

Bowdoin did not get rid of their Credit/D/Fail policy. In fact I am taking a class C/D/F in the fall as a senior.

I am interested in attending Bowdoin as well, so do you guys mind explaining what exactly Bowdoin’s Credit/D/Fail policy is? Thanks :)

Thanks for clarifying that polarbear10, I don’t mean to sound like I know anything, so i apologize for my spew there. So, I guess that didn’t change? Was there enough of a student backlash?

Can you take a C/D/F for a core requirement? I think that was really the controversy…

Here is the link. There is a change.

[Credit/D/F (Bowdoin, Office of the Registrar)](http://www.bowdoin.edu/registrar/creditdf.shtml)

See the bullet at the end for students of the class of 2012.

It clearly makes it harder, although that students are able to benefit somewhat from the policy is helpful.
